"Close Quarters" - Sulphur-crested Cockatoo Tea Towel (White or Natural Cotton)

$29.00

Bring Australia's most familiar white cockatoo into your kitchen with this vivid tea towel, printed from Robyn Clarke's original acrylic painting. Two sulphur-crested cockatoos fill the cloth in close portrait, one with its yellow crest swept back, the other pressed in beside it — both worked in unexpected washes of pink, lilac and gold against a bright blue sky.

This is a looser, more expressive treatment than Robyn's pencil work. The plumage is built from loose strokes of colour rather than rendered feather by feather, letting reflected light play across faces that would otherwise read as plain white. The heavy dark bills and bright, ringed eyes anchor the composition, while the tight crop places you close enough to feel the birds' characteristic boldness.

Sulphur-crested cockatoos are found across northern and eastern Australia, from the Kimberley through to Tasmania, and are equally at home in woodland and suburban streets. Loud, gregarious and notably long-lived, they gather in noisy flocks to feed on seeds, roots and nuts. Their screeching call is one of the most recognisable sounds in the Australian landscape, and their intelligence and curiosity make them a constant presence wherever people and bushland meet.

Made from ACO organic certified cotton, this premium tea towel combines functionality with artistic beauty. The sustainable organic cotton provides excellent absorbency while being gentle on the environment, making it perfect for both everyday kitchen use and display.
