"Edged in Gold" – Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos Original Acrylic Painting

$800.00

This striking original brings two yellow-tailed black cockatoos in close against a bright sky-blue ground, painted by Robyn Clarke in bold acrylic on canvas. Their glowing yellow cheek patches and pink-ringed eyes stand out from deep brown-black plumage, with one bird set just behind and above the other.

Robyn has painted the dark feathers as anything but plain black. Each one is tipped in rust, amber and gold, so the plumage reads as a rich scalloped pattern that catches the light across both birds. The two bills tell them apart: the upper bird's is dark grey, while the lower bird's is pale horn, the mark of a female. Small touches of pink and violet in the blue background lift the warm palette and keep the eye moving around the canvas.

Yellow-tailed black cockatoos are found through the forests and woodlands of south-eastern Australia, from Queensland down to Tasmania and across into South Australia. They are powerful foragers, tearing open branches with their heavy bills to reach the wood-boring grubs inside, and they have taken readily to the seeds of introduced pine plantations. Flocks travel with slow, deep wingbeats, and their arrival is usually announced well before they come into view.

This is a one-off original artwork. Once sold, it will not be available again.

The perfect addition to any nature lover's collection or an ideal centrepiece for those who appreciate original Australian wildlife art.
