"Wide Awake" – Tawny Frogmouths Original Acrylic Painting

$800.00

This warm and characterful original shows two tawny frogmouths peering down from a broad gum limb, painted by Robyn Clarke in bold acrylic on canvas. Behind sits a rich chestnut-brown bird; in front, a soft, fluffy youngster in pale buff and lilac, both fixing the viewer with wide amber eyes.

The composition is framed like a glimpse into the canopy. Gum leaves in green, rust and coral hang down across a clear pale-blue sky, and the thick, peeling limb in the foreground is worked in ribbons of rose, grey, cream and red-brown. The birds sit low and snug behind it, the youngster's downy breast built from loose, feathery strokes of mauve and peach, and the blue-grey of their broad bills echoing the sky above.

Tawny frogmouths are found right across Australia and are often surprisingly at home in suburban gardens. Pairs commonly stay together for years and return to the same patch of trees, raising their chicks on a flimsy platform of sticks laid across a fork in a branch. Both parents share the work of incubating and feeding, and young birds stay close by their parents for some time after leaving the nest.

This is a one-off original artwork. Once sold, it will not be available again.

The perfect addition to any nature lover's collection or an ideal centrepiece for those who appreciate original Australian wildlife art.
